Thousands of families, friends and communities showed up from coast to coast to coast to support breast cancer research, support programs and advocacy
TORONTO, Oct. 4, 2026 /CNW/ -- Today, more than 65,000 participants and volunteers across over 50 communities nationwide came together at the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, raising $18 million for those affected by breast cancer.

Thanks to the dedication of runners, walkers, donors, volunteers and partners, the CIBC Run for the Cure has been a powerful engine for improving breast cancer outcomes, raising $558 million for the cause to date. Funds raised are invested in the most promising research, clinical trials that save lives, advocacy and compassionate support programs that provide care, comfort and vital connections to those affected by breast cancer in Canada.
"Today was a day of action, hope and solidarity," says Kathryn Rodgers, Director of Signature Programs at the Canadian Cancer Society. "The energy across Run sites could be felt throughout the day, reflecting the strength of a community that has stood with people affected by breast cancer for 35 years. We are deeply grateful to every participant, donor and volunteer whose dedication is helping us to lead the way to a future without cancer."
Celebrating a milestone year of 30 years as title sponsor for the event, CIBC's enduring commitment has helped grow the Run into the largest event in Canada dedicated to supporting people affected by breast cancer.
"Today's participation shows how much can happen when a community chooses to act together," says Eve Jedrzejewska, Executive Vice President, Business Enablement and Governance, CIBC. "We are so grateful to everyone who contributed their time, energy and generosity to the Run. CIBC is honoured to celebrate 30 years of partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society and to continue supporting a movement that brings meaningful progress to people affected by breast cancer while advancing the possibility of a future beyond this disease."
Funds raised power the people behind the progress. Scientists funded through the CIBC Run for the Cure have helped drive some of the most significant breast cancer research discoveries of our time: advancing modern therapies, identifying breast cancer causing genes, improving detection and monitoring, and developing strategies to stop the disease before it starts.
As the second leading cause of cancer death in women, sustained investment remains critical. The end of the Run is just the beginning of funding lifesaving research, fueling clinical trials that bring new hope and supporting people affected by breast cancer every step of the way.
